Ternary computing · licensed to build

Binary reached its ceiling.
Ternary is next-level compute.

On, off — and a meaningful maybe. Ternary computes in three values, −1, 0, +1: fewer symbols, native sparsity, lower energy. And it runs on the silicon the world already builds.

Synapticode walked the ternary vertical end to end — trit, silicon, toolchain — so your evaluation starts from a finished map.

Hundreds of patent applications · 8.4× whole-model compression · tern-core public

01 — The plan

Three steps to the standard.

01

Sign the NDA

One signature opens the portfolio. Portfolio evaluation is available under NDA.

02

Take the portfolio briefing

The map of the estate, walked with you — from the trit, through ternary-native silicon, to a production EDA toolchain.

03

Run the pilot on your silicon

tern-core compresses a nominated LLM on your NPU — measured footprint, measured throughput, measured watts.

What the pilot becomes.

Evaluate

Free under NDA

An evaluation licence opens the tooling. You compress and run models free; your engineers take the measurements, and both sides may cite them.

White-glove onboarding runs capacity-capped at four partners.

Produce

Converts on production

The moment an application enters production, it converts to a paid proof-of-concept — priced per programme: small, ongoing, budgetable. Your evaluation results carry over.

License

Per unit, for the life of the design

Mature programmes graduate to per-unit licensing with NRE porting. Terms are set at signing and hold for the life of the architecture.

Evaluation stays free. Production is what converts.

02 — The number your team will check first

The whole argument, in one number.

To count to 128, binary spends eight bits. Ternary spends five trits. Same number — fewer symbols. Every layer of compute above it inherits that margin.

BINARY · base 28 bits → 10000000
10000000
TERNARY · base 35 trits → 11202
11202

The same illustration Samsung-funded ternary-semiconductor research used to show the gain. Fewer symbols to move, store, and switch — measured as less energy.

1.58 bits
information per trit
Each three-value cell carries log₂3 — 58% more than a bit, in binary-equivalent area.
~48–70%
zero-weight sparsity
Most ternary weights are zero. Zero means skip — no multiply, no switch, no energy spent.
5.39 W
measured inference

03 — What we saw

We had already seen the vertical — and knew it was now time to back it 100%.

In 2019, Samsung-funded research built a working, energy-efficient ternary semiconductor on a full wafer — and Samsung began verifying it at its own foundry fab. We saw the whole vertical — from the trit, through integrated 3D-neural silicon, to a production EDA toolchain — and backed that vertical, end to end.

Using the ternary system of 0, 1, 2 lessens the amount of information a semiconductor processes — and does it faster, with less power.

04 — Twelve centres of daily life

Every level looks different.

Ternary lifts the day a level — and each one looks different from the last. Twelve everyday centres, each improved by a system that can say SURE · UNSURE · UNKNOWN.

Your phone

On-device AI that respects the battery

Models up to 8× smaller run locally. Assistance without the round-trip to the cloud, or the drain.

Your car

A control that can hold

On, off, and a deliberate hold. The difference between graceful and abrupt at highway speed.

Your home

Help that stays in the house

Always-on inference that runs on the device. Private by construction, not by policy.

Your documents

Document³ carries its own truth

Every version, source, and change travels inside the file — history you can trust without a server.

Your money

Payments that check confidence first

A transaction can clear on SURE, pause on UNSURE, and stop on UNKNOWN — fewer false declines, fewer clean frauds.

Your health devices

Monitors that admit uncertainty

A reading flags unsure instead of guessing confidently — the honest state clinicians actually need.

Your power bill

Switching that coasts

A middle electrical state lets power stages coast deliberately. Less waste on every watt delivered.

Your privacy

Inference and audit, on-device

The model and its audit trail live with you. Your data stays yours, and can prove it.

Your commute

Autonomy that degrades gently

Transit and driver-assist that step down through defined states rather than dropping out.

Your media

Lighter files, provable origin

Video and audio compressed by sparsity, with authenticity that travels alongside the stream.

Your assistants

Agents that carry their confidence

Every answer tagged SURE, UNSURE, or UNKNOWN — help that tells you when to trust it.

Your flights

Avionics with a named safe state

A certified, named safe state for flight systems — safety with a name, not an assumption.

Clearer constraint, faster convergence, better output.

05 — Improvement you can itemise

It shows up on the bill, and in the workflow.

Two ways to feel it: the cost of a thing across its whole life, and the function of one everyday thing done better.

Every line of the cost of ownership

ONE PRODUCT · SIX LINES · ALL IMPROVED

PurchaseTernary capability drops onto existing nodes — no premium process to buy into.
DeliveredSmaller models and lower power mean lighter, cooler, cheaper-to-ship hardware.
Time takenCompare-and-add and zero-skip cut the work per inference — faster to a result.
Maintenance & repairSelf-declared health states surface a fault as unsure before it becomes a failure.
ReliabilityA deterministic hold state replaces ambiguous off-or-broken with a defined hold.
ServiceabilityIn-band confidence means each unit reports its own condition — less guesswork on the bench.

One everyday thing: the Document³

A DOCUMENT, WALKED THROUGH ITS LIFE

HistoryEvery change is kept with the file, confidence-tagged — the past is legible, not lost.
ExposureWho has seen it, and to what depth, travels with the document itself.
VisibilitySensitive passages carry their own state, so what is shown matches who is looking.
UseHow it is read, cited, and acted on is recorded as SURE / UNSURE / UNKNOWN signal.
PrintsEvery rendering and export is provenance-stamped — a print you can trace back.
VersioningBranches and merges resolve by confidence, not by last-write-wins.
06 — Built for the silicon leader

Everyone benefits. Two builders go first.

The story above is for everyone. The silicon that carries it starts with the partners already building the world's most efficient NPUs.

07 — The covenant

Built to stay your licensor.

Synapticode designs. Our partners build. That division is structural — licensing is the whole business, and every dollar we earn arrives because a partner shipped.

Your implementation is yours. Differentiate freely, price freely, roadmap freely. Royalty terms are set per unit and hold for the life of the architecture.

We grow when you grow. The relationship is symbiotic by design — a licensor whose only path to success runs through yours.

You take the market. We take the next design.

Ternary was here all along

Design the architecture with us. Fabricate it yourself.

Synapticode is the ternary licensing specialist — foundational ternary IP, design-only, licensed per unit for the life of the architecture. Portfolio evaluation is available under NDA. Terms that hold for the life of the design.

Ternary arrives on its own schedule. Authorship is the part with a closing date.
